ironically, despite a lot of these movies being remade because they attained some sort of cult following, "the cult" usually doesn't like the new versions, reimaginings, or whatever they end up creating.

I agree also. Just like Happy Gilmore 2, both good in their own regard. You can't compare it to their predecessor that was what, 2 decades ago when we didn't know what to expect when a new movie came out.

Nowadays with all the regurgitated crap they put out, these two were a breath of fresh air in comparison, IMO. They have the silly stuff we thought was awesome 20 years ago. Which should definitely be taken for granted and/or respected, since most of the new shit coming out is terrible. ;)

Yeah dude, don't do that. The last one was way too long ago to build up anything more than what the original movie was. Unless you were expecting tons of CGI and crazy robot shooters running around. There might be hope for that one. but the original was kinda cheesy and

I was 14 years old when I saw the original; I was a "serious" long-haired musician, so I didn't think it was funny... at all. Older friends kept referring to it and re-watching it and over time, I started to "get it" and now it's one of my all time favorite movies. So I think you have to either:

1) think musicians take themselves too seriously and so think it's funny to see them taken down a notch like that (even if only fictionally), or:

2) be a musican that does not take themselves too seriously and basically laugh at the absurdity of your past-time/profession

spinaltap also has a certain peculiar humor that a lot of people wouln't get. you have to have a developed sense of humor to really enjoy it.

best in show which has christopher guest and michael mckean (and tons of
other comics) is another mocumentary that i'd recommend.

Don't know about him as a person, but someone who can sing then switch
to singing and drumming, live, that kind of talent impresses me.

the original was just a weird type of special.

If you don't like the original, it will be hard to like the new one. Fans of the original will love the new Spinal Tap though. My daughter loved it too which was nice.

It's unscripted adlib too so you have to appreciate that style a little too I guess.

I was 14 years old when I saw the original; I was a "serious" long-haired musician, so I didn't think it was funny... at all. Older friends kept referring to it and re-watching it and over time, I started to "get it" and now it's one of my all time favorite movies. So I think you have to either:

1) think musicians take themselves too seriously and so think it's funny to see them taken down a notch like that (even if only fictionally), or:

2) be a musican that does not take themselves too seriously and basically laugh at the absurdity of your past-time/profession

I saw it when I was a kid too. I didn't realize it was a comedy going in so I was blown away haha, I checked it out of the library thinking it was a real documentary about a band. My daughter is a drummer too and really got a kick out of it, I've been playing music with people my whole life too so could be that too.
