I'd like to know how they are going to manage that. They say you don't
need receipts, just let them know how much bread you bought over a
20 year period (until 2021). That's ridiculously wide open..

Now that I think about it, I may not be eligible anyways. It seems
to only cover their own no-name bread and Weston Foods products and
    I usually buy Wonderbread..

But.. no receipts required, so.. B)

    That's ridiculously wide open..

The form asks you to name a brand of bread you bought recently.
I don't buy as much bread anymore, and I never really recall
the brand - especially the european sourdough ones. So.. I
    wrote "noname bagels".

Now that I think about it, I may not be eligible anyways.

I failed to notice the limited range of eligable bread brands.
I was filling in the form from the phone. And I just wanted to
    get it done asap.

Go for it. Can't really lose. However, the system is a kind
of info-harvestor - they want full legal name, DOB, phone
number, mailing address, and an email if you want the funds as
an e-Transfer. All public info though, so no big deal.

The use of "Loonies" for the 1$ coin was cute, since it
features a loon on one side.

But I've never grown fond of calling the $2 coin a twonie or a
toonie. The coin has a polar bear on it. So, following the
naming rule, the $2 coin should have reflected the bear,
    somehow.

    Chatgpg seems to suggest..

"A good slang term for the Canadian $2 coin (the toonie) that
nods to the polar bear could be:

"Bearie" - short, playful, and directly tied to the animal.

"Pawnie" - referencing the polar bear paw.

"Frostie" - captures both the northern vibe and the bear.

    "Polie" - from "polar."

"Whiteback" - a nod to the polar bear's color.

"Grizz" - even though it's not a grizzly, the shorthand feels natural as Canadian slang.

"Nanuk" - from nanook, the Inuktitut word for polar bear.

I kept a few bills and coins. They are different than the mostly green and off-white bills we have here. I thought they were pretty neat.

Canadian quarters and pennies are somewhat common in the US, but not the $ coins or any bills.

From the CBC article about it:

"Customers who bought bread between January 2001 and December 2021 and did not previously take a gift card from Loblaw will eventually receive up to $25. If there is still money left over after that distribution, funds will be divided among anyone who claimed the gift card."

If you didn't get a Loblaw gift card before, you'll now get up to $25.
If you already got the gift card, you won't get that $25 again, but you might still get a share of any leftover funds after the $25 payments are made.

Might be worth the effort then. A while back my Bank offered a
$50 gift card if you came in to discuss investments.
I tend to do that stuff myself, but I did have to stop in to
arrange some investment fund purchases and the lady I was talking
to said she'd put my name in as if I were doing it properly, and
then I forgot all about it.. And then later I got a note from the

and, as usual, most options were of no use to me, but one of them
was Home Hardware, so I chose that one and have since used it, so

I stand corrected. I have a feeling it was for "$25 max". What
a ripoff case. The lawyers are the real winners taking on the
case. We just get the crumbs - pun intended!

At the end, the system says that dispensation can only begin
after the deadline (which is in December sometime) ..and then
take up to 6 months after that.

A direct/clear "$XX" gift of one form or another is pretty
good. But I hate the ones where the banks try to rope you in
with "a CHANCE TO WIN.. $XXX" with a survey or an application
    of one of their services.

It still sounds confusing. Why do they say "up to $25" and then suggest that the funds would be greater "if there is money left over"?

If there is potential to receive more, they should have said "minimum $25", simple.

If you already got the gift card, you won't get that $25 again, but you might still get a share of any leftover funds after the $25 payments are made.

Well.. I did not partake in the gift card as compensation following the scandal.

That makes me think back to a couple of years when I spent 4 to 6
months in Florida over the winter. I learned to pick up the slight
Southern accent they use there so people you meet briefly in a store
or something would treat you like a local instead of a tourist. B)

Funny, I also met a Sheriff on one trip when the lady with me
passed out and ended up in hospital for a few hours due to
dehydration from the motorcycle trip down.. too many hours on the
road in 100+f temperatures the day before.. We got an ambulance
ride to the hospital about 15 miles away but when they later asked
how we were getting back to our place, I said we'd probably have
to call a taxi or something.. and was informed there were no taxis
or any public transit between here and there.. so the nurse called
the Sheriff's office and they had a deputy drive us back..

Nice of them.. I can still imagine them making fun of the
'damned tourists' when that call came in..

The funny part of this (where I started) was, a couple of days
later in a convenience store parking lot I ran into that same
Deputy off duty and he was so drunk he could barely walk, but
he was really friendly, like I was a long lost friend.. B)

I stand corrected. I have a feeling it was for "$25 max". What
    >a ripoff case. The lawyers are the real winners taking on the
    >case. We just get the crumbs - pun intended!

Yes, in class action suits it's generally only the lawyers that
    get rich from it..

A while back my Bank offered a $50 gift card..
... one of them was Home Hardware, so I chose that and
have since used it, so that worked out pretty well.

A direct/clear "$XX" gift of one form or another is pretty
    >good. But I hate the ones where the banks try to rope you in
    >with "a CHANCE TO WIN.. $XXX" with a survey or an application
    >of one of their services.

Yes, I get offers all the time with gift cards and such if you
take a new credit card or something, but I pretty much always
find that where you can spend that money is either not any place
I'd ever shop in or there isn't a branch within 75 miles of here.

So often 'deals' like that are based on things like Travel or
    specialty stores with overpriced products..

It still sounds confusing. Why do they say "up to $25" and then suggest that
    >e funds would be greater "if there is money left over"?

Like those offers that talk about, "Up to $500 and more.."

Or worse, like they say, "Up to $100,000 insurance coverage starting
as low as $20 a month.." And later you find out that the $20 plan
    only gives you $10,000 coverage..

A friend of mine signed up for one of those over the phone expecting
that $20 cost, but when the actual policy came it was almost $400 /mo.

No doubt she missed something in the sales pitch but I'd wager the
sellers are trained to fool people into doing that..

The funny part of this (where I started) was, a couple of days
later in a convenience store parking lot I ran into that same
Deputy off duty and he was so drunk he could barely walk, but
he was really friendly, like I was a long lost friend.. B)

Aside from being drunk, he doesn't sound like he fits the profile of
"Florida man" that we hear so much about. :D

There is a joke about typing "Florida man" into a search engine and then
    seeing what you get. ;)

It sort of reminds me about the joke about the often final words of
a man from (?) Georgia or Alabama I think it was originally..

Final words.. "Hey Y'all.. Watch this!".. B)

My guess is it works for other states, too, but Florida may get picked on
some because their stories sometimes involve alligators.

Come to think of it, stories about "Louisiana Man" might, too. :D

LOL, there could be a tagline or two based on that one.

I heard this was something to do with privacy laws. In Florida, I think it's easy to see and publicize what anyone was arrested/detained for. Something like that.

Makes me glad the worst thing we have in the water here are some really
