Posting Frequency: 1st of the month.

What it's for: A place for moderators to exchange tips, tricks, and
information regarding moderation of Fidonet echoes and other forums.

Any and all discussion regarding the management and moderation of a
    Fidonet conference is welcome.

Users and point operators must request permission to post in this
echomail conference, either via routed netmail, or via the sysop
hosting the user or point system.

Permission will be granted to recognized moderators of Fidonet echomail
conferences who are not themselves the operator of a system listed in
    the Fidonet nodelist.

The conference may be made available as read only to all other points
    and users.

Moderators who are not Fidonet system operators may send email to
[email protected] with a subject line indicating that the
message is requesting write privileges in this conference. Parties
requesting access via email must state which listed Fidonet system they
will be using to post in the conference, or a point address derived
from a listed Fidonet system. When permission to post is approved it
will be posted in the echo, and routed netmail sent to the sysop
hosting the requester. IF an individual requesting posting privileges
is not known to the moderator his/her request will be conveyed to the
echo for the purpose of seeking additional information from echo
    participants.

The usual rules of Fidonet echomail apply. These include the use of
real names, proper displaying of address and other information on
messages originating from your system, etc.

Gateways to/from other networks must be approved by users of the
conference. IF approved any gateway must work in both directions. The
operator of any approved gate is responsible for all traffic entering
    the echo through that gateway.

Moderation issues will be handled by Fidonet netmail only.

Other than that, come on in, pull up a chair! Thanks for participating
    in the Fidonet echomods conference.

Thank you for pointing out a few security holes I had in my system. There are many echos on fidonet that may (or may not as you pointed about p'ing someone off) appreciate your interjection of a little humor (I hope you were
attempting humor) in them. Unfortunately this is one area I do actively monitor, just in case, because I am a moderator.

Again this BLIND sysop (who's vision is improving daily) has had to fix a security hole here. You may gladly look, but I have to honor the section
which you so kindly quoted back to me, below.

Permission will be granted to recognized moderators of Fidonet echomail
conferences who are not themselves the operator of a system listed in
    the Fidonet nodelist.

Since you are not a nodelisted sysop and I'm not aware of you moderating any conferences I have to remove the write access on your security level per the instructions below.

The conference may be made available as read only to all other points
    and users.

If you are an echolisted moderator and need access to this echo please follow these instructoins to get access.

Moderators who are not Fidonet system operators may send email to [email protected] with a subject line indicating that the message is requesting write privileges in this conference. Parties requesting access via email must state which listed Fidonet system they will be using to post in the conference, or a point address derived

is not known to the moderator his/her request will be conveyed to the
echo for the purpose of seeking additional information from echo participants.

Mark is a very honorable person, regardless of past opinions and history I
know he will abide by his rules above.

And as I consider you a friend, and have gone to bat for you several times in the past few months please remember that the statement below applies to everywhere on fidonet.

"Sysops are responsible for any/all traffic that leaves their system."

That means I catch the flack first not you... and ultimately I can have my
node number excommunicated if things get too crazy. I do hope you regard me
as a friend and understand. Please be mindful about going into echos to stir up trouble and rememer -I- went to bat for you... I'm sure Marc and many
others will attest to this as well.

    Thanks

    Allen

Not as bad as back in the day when we had to worry with the law enforcement crowd raiding our homes to take the BBS machines thinking that there was "piracy or porn" going on. I know several who had their computers seized
and nothing was found. Then there was the infamous "Electronic Mafia" in Louisville that had satellite TV codes on it and tons of "warez" that made us all look bad.

One former area Sysop was caught with over 10,000 kiddie porn images
on his system, and I understand he spent time in the state penintentary.

The LiveWire has always been a "family" bbs... both of my parents used and enjoyed it. Because we were multi-line and we had a network even back in the day my parent's computer upstairs could access the BBS. Mom loved tradewars. Dad chatted on the echos a bit.

Everything I ever ran was alwys squeaky clean.

    Hello Daryl!

    Hi, Allen...

Everything I ever ran was alwys squeaky clean.

I remember when I was still dial-up only under GT Power. One caller
from the Chicago area paged me for chat, and since I was available, I
answered. He asked me where the adult files (nudity, porn, etc.) were.
When I typed "the internet", the next thing I saw was NO CARRIER. <G>
