I'd love it if UTF-8 were the default character set for all of Fidonet. But the reality is that it isn't. It did not look OK here until I manually forced UTF-8.

Which is already the case in most of the digital world. But not in Fidonet that for a large part runs on software born decades ago. Most message readers used in Fidonet do not even support UTF-8, let alone use it as default.
So for the time being, we will have to use a CHRS kludge for anything beyond pure ASCII...

Yes, I noticed that also. I am not sure if it is because of the PID/TID settings I have set in hpt or because Magicka adds its own origin line.

Default charset set to utf-8. Looks ok to me.
I'd love it if UTF-8 were the default character set for all of Fidonet. But the reality is that it isn't. It did not look OK here until I manually forced UTF-8.
You shouldn't have had to as the original message had the appropriate CHRS control line/paragraph/kludge:

Should be easy to fix. I've created an issue in the repo.
Which repo is that? It looked fine here (translated to CP437 for SyncTERM).

Then it must have been added by your system, because it didn't when it arrived here, and when it was exported from my system...
Yes, my bad.

The original message, as received here, had a CHRS "control paragraph":
X-FTN-AREA FIDOTEST
X-FTN-MSGID 1:153/149.42 78FD7DE0
X-FTN-PATH 153/149 757 280/464
X-FTN-CHRS UTF-8 4
It may have been inserted on your end. There was no CHRS in that message.
Check the .PKT ...
You're right! I totally forgot I added that feature to SBBSecho: "Auto-detect incomnig UTF-8 encoded messages" - I guess it works. :-)
