It's like saying you only want BBS software that's written in machine code. We've long been using these tools (interpreters, compilers, linkers, etc.) that abstract the machine(s) into an easier to digest and control dialect. Generative "coding" AI is just the newest tool in the chest. It's a huge win. And it can do more than just program.
My team has fully leaned into using Claude at work for our systems/infrastructure/datacenter engineering teams. We've managed to build out a custom "one-click deployment" system that spins up all the supporting systems for every time we open a new "datacenter" (DNS, services, Ironic, consul, BGP/anycast, DHCP, Pulp and VM Management systems) with a full UI and persistent monitoring. Only a handful of us are developers (I am not one of them), but each of us can contribute and modify the system in meaningful and considerable ways in hours rather than weeks.
It's made a hell of a difference. I'm still incredibly suspicious of anything an AI generates, and we've stopped it quite a few times with "Oh god, don't do that, you'll wipe out an entire database that way", but managed properly it really is a "game-changer"
