• Mystified by 20 year old conferences appearing as "recent"

    From Mark Summerfield@[email protected] to comp.lang.tcl on Tue Sep 2 09:53:01 2025

    On this page: https://wiki.tcl-lang.org/
Under "Recent changes" the first few lines are these:

    August 31, 2025
    Twelfth Annual Tcl/Tk Conference
    Thirteenth Annual Tcl/Tk Conference

But if you follow the links it turns out that the
Twelfth conference was back in 2005 and the
    Thirteenth in 2006.

Also, it seems a pity to me that on this page: https://wiki.tcl-lang.org/page/Tcl+Conferences
the conferences are listed oldest to newest when
surely most people would want to see newest to
    oldest?

I'm willing to but cannot login.
I tried again using the nickname login and that worked
    but won't let me edit.
Then I tried resetting my password but got no email.
Then I tried creating a new a/c and again got no email.
I have a gmail.com address which is normally reliable.

So you might have two problems:

    1. The "Recent changes" item in the wiki list those
pages which were touched least. By editing. It might
happen, that olden pages get an edit. So they get up
in the "Recent changes" item. Where's the beef then?

    2. The various conferences are listed in ascending
chronological order. Which seems logical, isn't it?

    > Except for top postings of course.
    > We used to read things from top to bottom.

Neither of these are something someone ever complained.

Now, where precisely is your point?

    Someone did!

I have now changed the https://wiki.tcl-lang.org/page/Tcl+Conferences page.

All lists are now in date order newest to oldest.

This is consistent with the page's overall design which always listed
"Coming Up" (i.e., newest) first and which I didn't change at all.

For anyone visiting this page it means that the most recent conferences
are shown first (per region). I added a TOC so that it is easy to jump
    straight to your region.

I was not able to edit the home page (to fix the August 31, 2025 entries)
but my guess is that's due to either permissions or that the page is auto-generated. Anyway, that won't matter soon as new Recent changes will
push that entry off the page.
