🇳🇿 media outfit Stuff has started a department called “Solving Stuff”,
for readers to write in with problems they’re having with various
large outfits, in the hope that publicity will shame the companies
concerned into doing the right thing.
Besides issues with over-eager private parking companies giving out infringement notices to drivers who pull into a parking spot for mere
seconds, I came across these ones about trouble with Google Maps:
A street which was missing from Maps <
https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360811863/exactly-situation-we-didnt-want-street-missing-google-maps-and-why-it-matters>.
A private driveway which was somehow marked as a public road on Maps,
and frequently used as such by random members of the public <
https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360828351/its-private-property-so-why-does-google-maps-say-womans-driveway-road>.
In both cases, the people affected did try to contact Google to fix
the issue repeatedly, without success. In both cases, Google did
(eventually) fix the problem after queries from Stuff.
If you didn’t have the media, who’re you gonna call?
