• Affinity now free

    Having recently paid for Affinity Publisher 2, I was a bit miffed
    to see that thay are now offering their whole updated suite for
    free.

    It seems too good to be true, but I can only assume that this
    move means that they will have to make money by selling the AI
    ability as an extra.

    I hadn't heard of it before, but caught a video on youtube last night,
    seems to include photo editor, vector editor *and* AI, all free.

    So, do these apps have their origins in Serif DrawPlus and friends?

    It seems that it does:

    <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serif_Europe>

    Serif (Europe) Ltd (known as Roleage Ltd before 1988) is a British software developer and publisher, best known for its Affinity suite of professional graphic design, photo editing, and desktop publishing software. The company delivers products directly to consumers through its dedicated website and contact centre, as well as through various retailers.

    In March 2024, it was acquired by Canva for US$380 million.

    That takes me back a bit. I'm sure I used free versions of Serif
    stuff back in the 90s.
