• Firefox for Android - changed menu

What the hell did they do to the menu in Firefox for Android 148? They
went from a small, accessible menu to a gigantic monster.

I think the change was in v147, I find it ok on a tablet, haven't really
    taken much notice on phone

Apparently this started in 141, but yesterday was the first time I
noticed the change (and I use Fx daily). I don't like it at all; my
thumb isn't long enough to operate it.

Yeah, the change happened a couple of weeks ago and it fell under the
typical Firefox "it wasn't broke so they fixed it" behaviour. Not the
first time that they have disrupted features that I use in the Android
FF, and it is the main reason there have been several forks in the PC
    version.

I use the Beta version and this menu change happened some some
months ago. It was slightly irritating at first but I soon got
used to it. But this is a tablet too - I haven't seen it on a
    phone.

I changed to Beta to get a proper tab-bar on top, like on desktop.
Has that arrived on Release yet? Fenix was always designed
    primarily for phones.

148 on a Pixel 10. After the changes I got the old menu back:

I started using an Android phone only this year, so it may be that for

I do know that yesterday or the day before, there was a change on my

No, it didn't concern one specific app. The information came from a notification when I updated Android AND Samsung things. AI says:

"Recent Android and Samsung updates (including One UI 6 and later)
strengthen security by preventing downgrades to older app versions,
often resulting in an INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE error. This
restriction is designed to stop security vulnerabilities, potential
privilege escalation, and data exfiltration. While some system apps can
be reverted to factory settings, third-party apps are generally locked
    to the updated version."

    Also: __________________________________________________________________________________
    Key Reasons and Limitations:

Security Restrictions: The update prevents downgrading to prevent, bugs, stability issues, and security vulnerabilities, as noted by users and
    experts on Samsung Community (https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/samsung-lounge/can-i-revert-one-ui-6-0-update/td-p/8790916)
    and Esper.io (https://www.esper.io/blog/android-system-app-downgrade-vulnerability-fix).

System Apps: You can often only roll back to the "factory version" of a
system app by going to Settings > Apps, selecting the app, and choosing "Uninstall updates" from the three-dot menu, as explained in this
    AirDroid article.

Third-Party Apps: Downgrading is generally not supported for
user-installed apps. Attempts to do so often fail.

Alternatives: If you must use an older version, you would have to
uninstall the app, find an older version (APK) on a site like APKMirror,
and install it, though this can cause issues. __________________________________________________________________________________

I hope this answers your question.

    Thanks. So much for 'AI'.

    The reference you gave
    (https://www.esper.io/blog/android-system-app-downgrade-vulnerability-fix).o
    *actually* says:

    "Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE: System app:
com.google.android.apps.wellbeing cannot be downgraded to older than
its preloaded version on the system image. Update version code 439367
    is older than 452937"

So a *pre-installed* (factory supplied) app can not be downgraded to
an older version than originally came with the device. Duh!

This has nothing to do with add-on apps, i.e. the apps you installed
    later.

    Also: __________________________________________________________________________________

This is about not being able to downgrade Samsung's One UI, which is
indeed true. Just like you can not downgrade Android to an earlier
    version.

I have never had a problem with either, but not being able to
downgrade One UI and Android is indeed a fact of life.

It's basically the same for most OSs, including Windows. But with
non-mobile OSs, you can sometimes *re-install* (not downgrade to) an
older version, which is (very) hard to 'impossible' on a monbile-OS.

    [...]

I hope this answers your question.

I hope this eases your concerns! :-)

No, it didn't concern one specific app. The information came from a
notification when I updated Android AND Samsung things. AI says:

    Thanks. So much for 'AI'.

    The reference you gave
    (https://www.esper.io/blog/android-system-app-downgrade-vulnerability-fix).o
    *actually* says:

    "Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE: System app:
com.google.android.apps.wellbeing cannot be downgraded to older than
its preloaded version on the system image. Update version code 439367
    is older than 452937"

So a *pre-installed* (factory supplied) app can not be downgraded to
an older version than originally came with the device. Duh!

This has nothing to do with add-on apps, i.e. the apps you installed
    later.

But with non-mobile OSs, you can sometimes *re-install* (not downgrade to) an
older version, which is (very) hard to 'impossible' on a monbile-OS.

I hope this answers your question.

I hope this eases your concerns! :-)

The problem, Frank, is that the message I saw disappeared when I bought
the bullet and went ahead with the update on my phone. I don't have an
eidetic memory, so I can't tell you verbatim what it said.

Regardless, yes, you've eased my concern. Thanks for that.
