    Another update:

If you're* interested in another Usenet archive, consider

    news.blueworldhosting.com

    It's a read-only Usenet host; no authentication (e.g.,
userID/password) required. Just point your newsreader to the host
above (port 119 or 563) and you're good to go.

[there's no web interface, so don't bother with your
browser. If you do go there via http you'll just get
text instructions on how to configure your newsreader]

It has messages going as far back as 1994 (at least for CSIPGA),
possibly further, although in general the bulk of the archive is
currently 2003 onward. The goal is to make it as complete an archive
of the 'big-eight' groups as possible.

Anyway, with Google's Usenet archive defunct this is a good, quick way
    to access a Usenet archive.

    * And if you're not interested, that's okay too. I care about stuff
like that, A big reason I make these posts is to serve as for
reminders to me that they exist ;-)

Thanks always good to add another one to the list.

The Google archive is still there, easy access on the web, and still
works, it just doesn't include anything quite that old, nor anything
    after they shut down posting.

True, but in addition to all that, I found it fairly useless because
of its interface and because Google tied it into its 'groups'
messaging board. Once-upon-a-time, back when Google first acquired the
DejaNews archive, it was actually useful... but even before they
killed Usenet archiving in Feb 2024, it wasn't really that useful.

Hence my excitement about finding a server which offered (or at least
promises to offer, eventually, if they can and if they don't become
bored with it ;-) a more complete feed which you can browse just as if
it were a regular newsfeed. Its search capabilities might not be as
robust, sure, but at least its not filled with extraneous crap.

Side note: My old version of Forte Agent apparently has a
per-newsgroup article cap of 65536. I discovered this hard limit
trying to download the csipga* headers from blueworldhosting.

I guess I may finally need to find a new newsreader...
