The Number refers to the total amount of games I have on Steam. The
more the better. Some will argue that it just clutters up your
library. This is entirely true, which is why I went through the
trouble of organizing my games into groups. Problem solved. So.. bring

But seriously, I am going to retire sooner or later (likely sooner)

I don't know how to count how many games I have in my Steam Library. I
only have about 45 installed now on my ne PC. I shouldn't have only
installed dozen or so but got carried away : - ) I doubt I will get to
most of them. Here I go again! lol

I can see my total games by going to my Library first by clicking on
Library at the top, then click on where it says ALL under that and
right in that drop-down menu, it shows me my total games in
    parenthesis.

If you don't see what I am describing here, then your Steam client is
likely configured differently from mine. In that case, just try
googling 'How to see my total games on Steam' if you still are
    interested in knowing.

I was going to say that it shows the number in your Steam profile
(really, the only reason for that page to exist, as far as I'm
concerned ;-) but I think that's actually an optional 'module' (game
collector) you can put on your 'showcase'.

Me, I'm impressed that pw has 45 games installed from Steam. I start
getting antsy when I have four or five games on-disk. ;-)

Ok, thanks. That works as well. I didn't know that. Only thing is, in
there it says my total games is 573. The way I described before shows
    767.

Oh, I didn't notice that but yeah, I see the same thing happening
    here.

A bit of googly-fu reveals a Steam forum post* (that I'll blindly
assume knows what it is talking about) says:

Games that don't count for the profile count/badge:
    - Free to play games;
    - Games with "Profile features limited" on the store page;
    - Games with "Steam is learning about this game" on
    the store page;
    - Games removed by Valve.

Thus, your method (total shown on library page) is a more accurate
number than the one on your profile.

I'm still using the profile method, though. The text is larger and
easier to read and doesn't require any fiddly mouse clicks and
spring-open menu operations. It's not like the number isn't
embarassingly large in either case ;-)

Ok, thank you for googling that and for the link so I can check it out
    myself.

It seems they refer to these two methods as the 'library count' vs the
'profile count'. PW can use either now if he wants to see his total
    Steam games.

I mean, I like the 'library count' more. It's more accurate (free
games still count as games!) and the number is the larger of the two.

But I'm just a poor old person (I have no time for tiny print. My legs
are grey, my ears are gnarled, my eyes are old and bent.) So I'm
sticking with the number on the profile page. At least I can read it
    without squinting. ;-)

[Or I'll just stick with Playnite, which is a third-party
game launcher which combines all your various services
into one big list. Except I just checked and it shows an
entirely DIFFERENT number of games on Steam. It's not that
far off the 'library count' on Valve's client... but it
is a different number... which is odd since it pulss the
data right off of Valve's servers ;-)

I guess the only way to be sure is to manually count all
my games. One... two... three... four... hmm, this will
take a while, I'll get back to you with the results...
    four... five... six...]

Mind you... that's Steam games in my case.

If you include the DOS Game collection, well, that's over a thousand
installed. But that makes me feel proud (in that weird, shameful,
nerdy way), and not antsy, because you can never have enough DOS games
    ;-)

Although the whole lot takes less space than Microsoft Flight
    Simulator 2020.
