It's not the first time this game has been free on GOG. I doubt it
    will be the last either.

But it's not really one, I think, worth grabbing. (Well, unless you
have some religious motive to increase the size of your video gaming
library that has nothing to do with reason). It's gameplay is pretty
poor --very trial and error, very little to actually do, a lot of
wandering back and forth-- and its story isn't that interesting, and
isn't that well told to boot. It's pretty (or, anyway, I remember it
being visually pleasing back when I played it five years ago; I don't
know how well it's stood the test of time) but not overwhelmingly so.
It's a C-tier game and it doesn't surprise me that it's been given
away for free so often. Very few people actually would want to pay for
    it. ;-)

(wait... have I caught up with the backlog?)

Hey Ant - I didn't realize that there was another active newsgroup
relating to games. Do you know of any others? Cool! The flight sim
group and others I used to subsribe to are dead. Not even sure if
there are other text newsgroups that exist.

Mostly, though, it's stuff that's cross-posted to .action though. For
whatever reason, *.action has become the default for computer gaming
    on Usenet.

Newsgrouper https://newsgrouper.org/ is a great way to explore new
groups. Use its search tool to look for groups that might match your
interest, then go see if there's any activity. Sadly, more often than
not the answer will be 'no' (or the activity there won't be related to
the group's charter), but that doesn't mean there CAN'T be. There are
a lot of lurkers out there, just waiting for somebody to start a new
    thread ;-)

comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg is still barely active, Spalls posts there occasionally, and there seems to be a lot of talk of Wizardry. I
haven't bothered posting there in quite some time, but I was posting
there first as I'm more (or at least used to be) of an RPG fan. Though they've blended so much since way back now at least that there's lots of overlap.
