    Oooh, ooh! It's "Number-Go-Up-By-Eight" day; my favorite day of the
    month. Why? Because The Number can, potentially, go up by eight new
    games today (whoever named the day was a genius, I think!). It's all
    thanks to the amazing power of Humble Choice! Preferred by nine out of
    ten dentists world-wide!

    Let's see what garbage we'll be stuffing our library with this month:

    [URLs are informational. Pay the entry fee and claim the games
    at https://www.humblebundle.com/membership instead]

    --------------

    * Total War: Warhammer III https://store.steampowered.com/app/1142710/Total_War_WARHAMMER_III/
    I'll be honest; I never really cared for the "Total
    War: Warhammer" games. Partly its because I don't really
    like the setting, partly because I'm tired of the whole
    "Total War" experience, but mostly because its another
    Games Workshop DLC-fest, where you have to keep buying
    and buying if you want the complete experience. TW:WH3
    is the worst of the bunch in this last regard. But I guess
    if I already own the first two I can't let the third one
    get away...

    * Another Crab's Treasure https://store.steampowered.com/app/1887840/Another_Crabs_Treasure/
    This one is a throwback to the 3D mascot platformers of
    yesteryear. I guess its okay if you like the genre, but
    --whether it was Sonic or Bubsy or Spyro or whomever-- neither
    the cartoony stories nor the visuals nor the gameplay really
    ever appealed to me. This one is well reviewed, so I'll
    grudgingly add it to the library, but I doubt I'll ever play
    it.

    * No More Heroes 3
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1744330/No_More_Heroes_3/
    I didn't even know they made a "No More Heroes 3"! I played
    the first one a long time ago, and it was okay; it was
    undoubtedly stylish and the gameplay was -at times-
    quite satisfying, but it was also Japanese-weird, and
    annoyingly grindy at times. I skipped the second (wasn't
    it a Wii-U title? I think everyone skipped it) and now
    there's this third one? Reviews are positive but the game
    seems to switch one from style of gameplay to the next rather
    than focus on making a solid, coherent game. If I ever get
    around to playing this one, I don't think I'll enjoy it
    much more than the first.

    * Etrian Odyssey HD https://store.steampowered.com/app/1868180/Etrian_Odyssey_HD/
    A JRPG, this one is an updated remake of a NintendoDS
    game. I vaguely remember looking at the original one and
    being unimpressed with anything it was doing. The visuals
    are nicer in the remake, but it's still not a genre (or
    art style!) I really like.

    * Pharaoh: A New Era https://store.steampowered.com/app/1351080/Pharaoh_A_New_Era/
    The old Sierra city-builder from yesteryear. I never
    really got into this one when it first came out in 1999
    (I'd burned out playing "Zeus" and "Caesar III) but I
    liked the gameplay of the series, and this new edition
    has nicer visuals and bigger maps, so it probably deserves
    a chance.

    * Synergy
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1989070/Synergy/
    An "ecosystem" City-builder, for whatever that means. It's
    got a Dr. Seuss-like visual style that I don't really care
    for, and reviews are very mixed, but I've a soft spot for
    city-builders, so I guess I'll eventually give it a try.

    * Spin Hero
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/2917350/Spin_Hero/
    A rogue-like deckbuilder with retro graphics. I don't
    really have to say more about the game after that, do I?
    You all already know how I feel about games like that.

    * Paleo Pines
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1202200/Paleo_Pines/
    Yeah, another Animal Crossing-style farming/village
    sim... except this one has dinosaurs! This one has very
    positive reviews, but the entire genre does nothing for
    me; I don't hate these games, but I've no interest in them
    either. But I guess they're popular enough amongst a
    certain segment of gamers, so they keep showing up in
    HumbleChoice, which means they keep ending up in my library...

    --------------

    Credit to Humble this month; none of the games are outright stinkers.
    But only half of them are suited to my tastes, and the few that do
    appeal to me are average games at best; games I'll play, but don't
    really stir up any excitement. But The Number must go up, so I guess
    I'll get them all...

    This year has been pretty 'meh' from HumbleChoice. I hope they have
    something special planned for the holiday season.

    Total War needs to come with a paper manual. I've put at least an hour
    into Total War games and can't get my armies to perform the most basic movements. What is the keyboard configuration for this game anyways?

    I was slightly interested in this until I saw the recent Steam score.
    28%. That's insanely low for a big game. I see reviews that a recent
    patch broke the game, and they're not bothering to fix it, since at
    least October 7th. Plus DLC hell as you mention. Not touching this one.

    This is a fucking hard soulslike. I didn't like it. Perhaps it's too cartoony. Supposedly it gets easier once you get certain equipment, but
    I didn't get that far. At least I only tried it on gamepass instead of
    buying it. It's loved by the souls community as being one of the best soulslikes especially for people who are new to soulslikes. You might
    not have issue with it as you found The Surge not especially hard. But
    it's not one I'll ever play again.

    Still nothing I'm interested in.
