"My" Bond was always Roger Moore,
And here I thought you were going to make some comments on the new
James Bond game that's in development.
(Apparently being made by the guys who did the Hitman series, but
otherwise something I know very little about).
My interest in Bond has greatly diminished though, especially since
the Daniel Craig era when they worked so hard to make him dark and
gritty. "My" Bond was always Roger Moore, and I always associate a
certain light-hearted silliness with the character. The modern, more
serious takes on the character have never resonated well with me. I've
no idea what the newest Bond will be like, but he's got a hard road
ahead of him to convince me to show interest in the franchise again... whether in cinema or video-games.

Bah! Connery-Bond never went to space! He never drove a Lotus
submarine-car! He never dressed up as a circus clown! He never battled
an assassin with heavy-metal dentistry! He never rode a
gondola-hovercraft through the streets of Venice! These are all the
marks of the TRUE James Bond! ;-)

Agree 100%. Sean Connery and Roger Moore only for me. I never watched
a single JB move after them. Too phoney.
I watched a trailer for the the game, looks pretty cool. Going to
pass.
I actually liked the Daniel Craig Bonds....

I grew up with Roger Moore but I don't really care for his movies
nowadays. I prefer Craig and Dalton's more serious Bonds.

Each Bond is a product of their time.

Not the fantasy of a gentleman spy who can be a bit of a bastard when necessary.
The cold blooded killer who will do whatever it takes to get the job
done for his country, including dying, and who can wear the mask of a Gentleman to move in those circles.
The latter is the real bond, Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan
all played the fantasy version who would not survive a day in real life.
How the fuck do you do the job when you tell everyone your name, and
every enemy spy agency knows what you look like? Most countries ARREST SPIES, and literally every country on earth knows he is one.
Maybe that shit could have worked in the 60s and 70s, but with cameras everywhere and facial recognition, Bond gets outed before he can leave
the airport and is arrested.

You want realism, go with the likes of George Smiley.
Having been on the inside, Le Carré knew his stuff, as did Fleming, but Fleming wrote
romanticized fantasy on purpose. His characters were not supposed to be anything like
real life, and that goes double for the movie versions. I mean did you ever meet a woman
who was actually named "Pussy Galore"?
(Wanders off, cackling dementedly)

Each Bond is a product of their time.Ain't that the truth.
It's not that I actively dislike the other Bonds. But when I think of
the gentleman spy, it's Roger Moore that comes to mind, and all others
are imitations of that stereotype. The Bond played by Daniel Craig was interesting... it just didn't scream "James Bond" to me. It felt more
like a Bourne movie. Which is, you know, fine... but it just isn't
what I expect when I want Bond.
