• Let's make fun of the Epic Game Store some more!

Hey, if Epic doesn't want us making fun of their stupid decisions,
they just need to stop making stupid decisions!

Case in point: the Epic Games launcher randomly plays "party chimes". Apparently this feature has been around a while,

[Most people haven't noticed because most people
don't ever use the Epic games client ;-)]

but it's only become newsworthy recently because a bug caused them to
play more frequently than necessary (an update to the launcher has
soon to be released). The sounds notify the user when another player
leaves the party, or is talking, or has sent a message or various
other social interactions... but they sometimes happen even when users
    aren't in Epic Games parties.

Well --bug aside-- not that weird, right? A lot of launchers have
similar features, including Steam. Just one thing: in Steam, you can
turn off the chimes entirely. In Epic? Nope; no such option. Maybe in
the future, but it's not a high priority.

You know Epic, when people say make your client better, this is
exactly the sort of thing they mean. And when people specifically
point out an option that is annoying them, don't back burner it,
especially when it's an easy fix. Or just accept you're going to be
playing second fiddle to Valve no matter how much Fortnite cash you
spend on bribing developers and players.

I want to make fun of both of them. Epic is total rubbish, and doesn't
even have code signatures for some intermediate files that my current
security policy blocks, so I can't even install it.

Steam is total bullshit in the payment processor, so I deleted my Steam
account as a retaliation. Why support a "game store" that can't even
    charge my card?

Best wishes, and happy gaming on GOG which at least for now has a usable
    game store!

That I already downloaded from the Epic store, in their installer. They

with the white tower of blinking lights -- does not want to run unsigned binaries.

Whose fault is that? Why does Epic get to download unsigned binaries on
my computer? Not Epic, that's who!

Oh, you find that funny? I'm still laughing at Epic failing to properly
stamp their binaries, and can't hear you over my own laughter.

I run unsigned binaries all the time. I just make them myself. I don't

So, how do you make your own executables? Or are you too stupid to make

Almost certainly. I can't say for sure. I don't use the Epic Game
    Store client either ;-)

But I've frequently noted at how sparse the settings page of EGS is,
although one of the few options the game's launcher *does* have on
that page is to hide your game's library.

(Opening EGS, I see you can disable 'desktop notifications' for things
like chat and game invites... but this turns them off entirely. No
option to turn off the sound but keep the visual indicator. No
worries, though; I'm sure Epic will get around to adding that feature
in five or six years ;-)

You can always mute the app from the system level right? Still sucks
that that's even a thing and I'm kinda amazed nobody thought to provide
an option to turn that off...

Even your _phone_ lets you turn notifications off. I don't know what Epic
    is thinking.

idk if epic does think through how "users" would use something, its just
    all moneybags in their head
