    Yeah, we're back. Twice a month, down into Amazon's free-games mines
    to see what's been dug up. Are there any gems in this seam, or is it
    all coal? Grab your pickaxe and let's find out.

    #

    * Doom (2016) (via GOG)
    https://www.gog.com/en/game/doom_2016
    The first of the nu-Doom franchise. It's okay. I'm personally
    not a fan of the 'push-forward' mechanics and ammo-piata
    enemies, but it's a solid mechanic even if I don't personally
    enjoy it. The game is pretty enough too, and there's a
    surprising amount of lore (in a Doom game? Yes!). I was more a
    fan of the sequel, "Doom Eternal" but if you're new to the
    franchise, this is a good place to start.

    * Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit (via EPIC) https://store.epicgames.com/p/five-nights-at-freddys-into-the-pit-99c563?lang=en-US
    How many "Five Nights at Freddy's" games are there? Well, here
    is one more, apparently. I never could get into this franchise,
    but if you're a fan then this game will probably appeal to you,
    even if it is reputedly quite short. Well, you get what you pay
    for, I guess.

    * Hue (via EPIC)
    https://store.epicgames.com/p/hue?lang=en-US
    A fairly standard Indie puzzle-platformer; run-n-jump across
    various obstacles. The 'twist' of this game is that you can
    change the background color to make objects either fade into
    the background (becoming intangible) or stand out from the
    background (so you can jump on them). I guess it's okay.

    * High on Life (via EPIC) https://store.epicgames.com/p/high-on-life-3a855b?lang=en-US
    A foul-mouthed first-person sci-fi shooter. If you think
    South Park-style humor is the height of hilarity, you'll
    love this one. Mechanically it's fine; it's colorful and
    the setting is definitely unique. But how much you'll enjoy
    this one depends on how well you jibe with the humorous
    dialog.

    * RiMS Racing (via EPIC)
    https://store.epicgames.com/p/rims-racing?lang=en-US
    Vroom-vroom your motorcycle on beautifully rendered tracks.
    Reviews are pretty unfavorable though. I can't really judge.
    I've never been able to get into simulated motorcycle racing.

    * Wall World 2 (via Amazon) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3467710/Wall_World_2/
    To go by the Steam tags for this game, it's a roguelite
    pixel-graphic tower-defense action game. Dig into the earth
    for resources, then fight off the hordes unleashed by your
    unwise mining. Reviews indicate it's excessively grindy.

    * The Da Vinci Cryptex (via Legacy) https://legacygames.com/product/the-da-vinci-cryptex-1/
    An escape-room point-n-click puzzle-adventure. Solve the
    puzzles in Da Vinci's workshop and --utilizing the drawings
    provided-- figure out how to unlock them and help you escape.
    Meh.

    Well, there are a few good games in the bunch so I guess our trek into
    the depths wasn't a total waste. We'll see what else the diggers
    unearth in a couple weeks.

    One my Daughter will like probably. I'll get it anyway.

    * High on Life (via EPIC) https://store.epicgames.com/p/high-on-life-3a855b?lang=en-US

    It's on the good side of meh. I've had a couple laughs, equal amounts
    of gross out humor which turns me off though. I'm surprised this didn't
    get the dreaded A rating, and is only M. There's way more gross/adult
    'humor' than any other M game I've played, GTA doesn't even begin to
    scratch the surface on this game.
    * Wall World 2 (via Amazon) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3467710/Wall_World_2/

    pixel-graphic tower-defense action game. Dig into the earth

    unwise mining. Reviews indicate it's excessively grindy.

    Wall World was interesting though I didn't play it for long. I picked
    it up to see if it's any good. Though excessively grindy doesn't sound
    like it.

    Well, for the same reason we bought them in the 90s? I am not really a
    fan of racing games, and probably would pass on a game with only motor-
    cycles, but having a different set of cars, with different tracks was
    enough in the 90s.

    Well, there were also different sets of physics back then, but I presume
    that's been /solved now/ and all racing games use the same physics?

    Then, if we're going to make a new game, a good story would be nice.
    The story was always an afterthought in the 90s, and I can only speak
    for myself, but when I find modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 with sub-
    par storylines, I feel bad. I mean, not bad for the game, but bad be-
    cause I would expect the story to be another /solved problem/ in games.

    But we live in the real world, and not fantasy where we can just dream
    up games and they're all good.
